“A profoundly gifted and innovative flutist” (Pittsburgh in the Round), Zoe Sorrell is a creator of words, sounds, relationships, and spaces. Her primary mediums of expression are flute, movement, and poetry, which she is committed to combining in never-before-seen ways. It is not uncommon to see Zoe recite original poetry through her flute, fully choreograph a recital, or bring her flutes into her burlesque performances. Zoe is an active educator and advocate for new music, especially that written by Pittsburgh-based composers. She has given over fifty world premiere performances and commissioned over a dozen works for solo flute.
Zoe is the touring flutist for 5x Grammy-nominated composer David Arkenstone and has performed with his band across Switzerland and the USA. Her personal flute collection consists of over 50 flutes from throughout history and around the world, and she regularly performs on approximately half of those. Zoe is a knitter, runner, reader, hiker, and big fan of delicious gluten-free food.
