Symphonina Foundation Ambassador Annelle Gregory Interviews
GRAMMY®-Nominee Kip Winger
Kip Winger is a Grammy-nominated composer and multi-platinum recording artist whose remarkable career bridges rock, classical music, and musical theater. He first made his mark touring as bassist with Alice Cooper before founding the band Winger in 1987. The group went on to sell millions of albums, score six Billboard Top-40 singles, and earn an American Music Award nomination. Along the way, Winger performed and collaborated with artists including Bob Dylan, Roger Daltrey, Alan Parsons, and Hollywood Vampires, establishing himself as a musician known for both extraordinary technical ability and a deep commitment to composition.
In recent years, Winger has earned international acclaim as a contemporary classical composer. His ballet Ghosts, commissioned by Tony Award-winning choreographer Christopher Wheeldon, was performed at Lincoln Center, Sadler’s Wells, and Théâtre du Châtelet. His Conversations with Nijinsky, recorded with the San Francisco Ballet Orchestra, debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Traditional Classical Chart and received a Grammy nomination for Best Contemporary Classical Composition. His orchestral works have been performed by ensembles including the Nashville Symphony, San Francisco Ballet Orchestra, Colorado Symphony, and Thessaloniki State Symphony, while his musical Get Jack: A Musical Thriller reached No. 7 on Billboard’s Cast Album Chart. Today, Winger continues to perform internationally with his band while building an extraordinary body of classical work—including a new album with the Nashville Symphony—making him a uniquely compelling voice on creativity, musical reinvention, and the unlikely connections between rock and symphonic music.
