David Fogel Interviews Composer
Charles-Henri Avelange
for the Second Time
Born on the French Côte d’Azur, Charles-Henri Avelange grew up in a world of culture and adventure, shaped by a childhood in places like Riyadh during the Gulf War and a 12th-century Knight Templar castle in France. These experiences fueled his passion for storytelling through music. Charles-Henri earned a Master’s degree in sound engineering and film production from ESRA Nice Côte d’Azur in 2004, inspiring the school to create a film scoring program. After working as a sound engineer in Paris, he moved to America in 2005. In Seattle, he composed The Age of Heroes, an orchestral album honoring firefighters and veterans, performed by the Everett Symphony in 2010 to support local organizations. Since 2009, he has been the official composer for the Seattle International Film Festival, where his SIFF Orchestra became a historic highlight. In 2013, Charles-Henri and his wife, Jennifer, settled in Los Angeles. His credits include Hallmark Channel’s Jingle All the Way and Jingle and Bell’s Christmas Star, and he most recently co-composed the new theatrical-release horror score for Screamboat, and the first official theme for the Make-A-Wish® Foundation, One Wish. His Hollywood Music in Media Awards-winning album The Oeuvre of Leon Oury blends classical and folk influences, while his score for the sci-fi pilot Renegades: Ominara featured a collaboration with the late Star Trek legend Nichelle Nichols. He is preparing to record his original composition for The Firemen's Prayer, including orchestra, choir, and bagpipes. For more information please visit https://www.
